Friends Of Gaines ("FOGGIES")
Gaines depends heavily on an army of vounteers to keep its ministry running, and we're always eager to enlist new recruits to the ranks! Regardless of your skills, location or time availability, there's definitely a role for you to play at Gaines. Here are just a few of the ways you can make a real difference:Skilled
Tradesmen
Are you a professional tradesman? Whether a plumber, electrician, builder, plasterer, decorator or roofer, we have no shortage of one-off jobs where we'd really value your help. We're not asking for any ongoing commitment - if all you can offer is a single day, we’ll still gladly make use of your help.
You supply your skill and labour. We'll ask Alice to supply the coffee and bacon sandwiches!
DIY
Whilst some jobs require professioonal attention, the vast majority do not. If you’re happy to wield a paint scraper or paint roller, please let us know. We organise several work parties a year, and they always involve revolve around great fun, new friend and tasty food. Get in touch to learn more.
Gardening
We have over five acres of grounds that need looking after, and could benefit from your green fingers. Much is laid to grass ( mowing is a perpetual need!), but there are several areas where we’d love to create something imaginative. If you can help restore our sunken garden (maybe even design and project-manage the effort?), or simply plant some bulbs to add spring colour, we'd love to hear from you. Again, both regular and one-off help equally valued.
Catering
You don't need to be a professional chef to help in our kitchen (though if you happen to be one, we’d not turn you away!). There are opportunities to help out at weekends when we have youth groups visiting, mid-week during summer camps, and from time to time when we host working parties.
Whether you’re used to taking charge of a busy professional kitchen, or happy to take instruction from someone who is and choip vegetables, you’d be a massive help.
Tell Others
Here's a way to help us right from your own home town. We're eager to spread word of the ministry at Gaines, and asking folk to help publicise our prayer and praise needs with their home fellowships. Talk to us, and we'll give you some ideas of how that might look in practice, as well as some materials to help in the process. You'll alsmost certainly want to visit Gaines first to see everything at first hand, but once back home you might consider hosting a quartely prayer meeting, recruiting folk from church to join you on a weekend workparty at Gaines, or raising £200 to sponsor a child on camp.
Office & Admin
We're currently hoping to find a local person to join our volunteers on a regular basis and take charge of our office. Anything from a couple of days a week through to full time would be considered.
This would suit someone who is retired or semi-retired, and eager to make use of otherwise idling skills. You'll neeed to be proficient with everyday software (Excel, Word etc), and happy to learn new systems too. And whilst not essential, it would be a strong advantage if you had some basic bookkeeping experience too.
Please contact Ben to find out more about what we’re looking for, and see if you could help us.
